[News] Serene barangay now a hub of robberies
CITY OF SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, BULACAN The relocatees from former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada s Pabahay 2000 relocation project are being incriminated of plaguing the once remote city of San Jose Del Monte ever since the spate of theft cases started happening last month.
The relocatees are being blamed ethoxylated mono and diglycerides for the sudden increase in the number of theft cases in the barangay, given that the vast majority of the residents there are jobless and are dependent on financial aid from the government.
Well, reports say that the most frequent suspects are the informal settlers, lalo na yung mga bata . They [kids] would climb up the posts and cut the cables, tapos ibebenta nila yon , said Villadolid, the Barangay Secretary of Brgy. Maharlika.
Huwag naman sana nilang lahatin. Yung iba po kasi, aminin na natin, ay nagagawa yon dahil sa hirap nga ng buhay. Pero hindi po lahat. Paano naman, nasa Maynila ang kabuhayan namin tapos itatamabak kami dito? Magagawa talaga nila yun. Pero hindi naman kaming lahat. Feliz Batingan, a 40-year-old, relocatee said.
Theft cases in the municipality are now reported to be occurring almost daily, with reports that last week s theft cases have escalated to 5, which, according to Brgy. Secretary Sugar Villadolid, happened consecutively in a week.
Before the [informal] settlers came, Brgy. Maharlika was declared the third most peaceful Barangay. Now, the robberies ethoxylated mono and diglycerides seem unmanageable, especially since last month when the robberies became rampant. Just recently, 10 computer units were stolen from a computer shop in Brgy. Maharlika, followed by a robbery in a bakery in the same area; another robbery case in a motorcycle shop, and another robbery in a law office. All these robberies happened on the same week.
Only ethoxylated mono and diglycerides 16 were cleared from the 23 cases of theft in the area. Out of the 16 cleared cases, ethoxylated mono and diglycerides 11 were reported to be residents of the said residential housing project of the former President and now mayor of the Philippine capital city Manila.
